Hello everyone and welcome to my page for Craven County! Since Spring 2000, I have been working on a project to document free blacks in North Carolina before and during the Civil War. Recently, I've come across a lot of information relating to Craven County and have created this page so that you can access the transcriptions of the actual documents. Not all the information will be on free Blacks, some information I've come across is about white citizens of Craven County as well. If you have, or suspect you have, ancestors from NC that were free blacks, please contact me to help me with this project, and I can help you as well. I am done with school for now, but planning to go for my PhD and hopefully turn all this research into my dissertation.
The focus of this site is genealogy and history of Craven County. Please submit any material you have relating to Craven county that you wish for me to include on this page to me please.
Although I would like to include a brief history of Craven County, I just don't know much about Craven to do so. If you would like to volunteer to write up a short history, please email me
